Brasilia, April 23 (RHC)-- Representatives of nine opposition parties in Brazil convened for a virtual meeting with the aim of unifying criteria around the impeachment requests against President Jair Bolsonaro, which are currently in the Chamber of Deputies.

According to local media, the meeting analyzed "the possibility of unifying the impeachment requests in the Chamber of Deputies" and discuss ways to mobilize a campaign to politically impeach the ex-military, whom many politicians and leaders consider responsible for the situation Brazil is experiencing with COVID-19.

The call was addressed to representatives of the Workers, Brazilian Communist, Popular Unity, Socialism and Liberty, Sustainability Network, Green, Labor Democrat, Citizenship and Brazilian Socialist parties.

The impeachment requests have been presented by social movements, entities, health personalities and even right-wing organizations, such as the Brazilian Social Democracy and Free Brazil Movement parties.  A few days ago, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, dismissed for the moment to open impeachment proceedings against Bolsonaro.

According to Pacheco, revanchism cannot be used to initiate an exoneration and it is "necessary to evaluate the judicial aspects, to analyze the dissatisfaction with a minister (of the Court) or with the president of the Republic".

Although he is against an impeachment, the President of the Senate announced the formation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the management of public policies in the face of the pandemic.  He also made the decision to merge two requests submitted by senators to investigate, through a Board, the management of the federal government, such as the destination of federal funds transfers to municipalities and states.
