Bogota, May 30 (RHC)-- The Peasant Association of the Cimitarra River Valley denounced the murder of social leader Jair Adán Roldán Morales, who was taken from his home in the village of El Tamar in the municipality of Remedios, in the northern department of Antioquia.

Roldan's body was found in the evening hours of Friday, May 28, unarmed and riddled with bullets in the Santo Domingo village of the municipality of Cantagallo.

As no State institution was present to carry out the recovery work, the community had to rescue the body and transport it to the municipality of Yondó, located in the sub-region of Magdalena Medio in the department of Antioquia.

The farmer was the brother of a recognized leader of the Comunes party in the process of reincorporation in the region.  Roldán participated in the peasant organization processes promoted in the peasant reserve zone of the Cimitarra River Valley, in addition to being recognized as a good neighbor and hard-working man by the community of his village and the region, the peasant organization indicated.

The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) indicated that with the death of Roldán, 68 leaders and human rights defenders have been murdered in 2021 and 1,184 since the signing of the peace agreement.

The Peasant Association of the Cimitarra River Valley, ACVC-RAN, rejects this infamous act, which in addition to being a crime in violation of international conventions and international humanitarian law, terrorizes the region and attacks the right of peasants to be present in the territory, to life, dignity and social and political participation.

The entity demanded that the armed groups respect the principle of distinction enshrined as a fundamental rule in international humanitarian law, and not involve the civilian population in their activities, nor attempt against their property, their integrity and their lives.
