Colombia breaks new record for daily coronavirus cases

Bogota, June 4 (RHC)-- Colombia marked this Wednesday for the second consecutive day a daily record of coronavirus infections by reporting 27,000 cases of COVID-19 in the middle of the third wave of the pandemic.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, the country accumulates 3,459,422 infected.  Over the past 24 hours, Colombia reported 511 new deaths due to coronavirus, which brings the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 89,808.

The Colombian capital Bogota, with a high rate of infection, again reported the highest number of new infections, with 10,524 positives, followed by the department of Antioquia (2,951), Cundinamarca (1,883) and Valle del Cauca (1,671).

Bogota continues to be the main focus of the pandemic and accumulates 982,405 cases, followed by the regions of Antioquia (547,033), Atlántico (273,719), Valle del Cauca (271,721) and Cundinamarca (168,593).   Regarding the number of deaths in the last day, the highest number of deaths occurred in Bogota (129), followed by Antioquia (56), Valle del Cauca (54) and Cundinamarca (37).

According to the Ministry of Health, May was the deadliest month since the beginning of the pandemic, with 3,406,456 infected and 88,774 deaths.
