Nicaragua condemns Spain's interference in its internal affairs

Managua, August 11 (RHC)-- The Government of Nicaragua condemned and regretted this Tuesday the interference of Spain in its internal affairs.  In a statement issued in Managua, the Foreign Ministry repudiated "the inadmissible interference of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain in Nicaragua's internal affairs, which only correspond to our country and our people."

"We have denounced, and will continue to denounce, the cynical and continuous meddling, interference and intervention in our domestic affairs, unbecoming of democratic governments, also unbecoming of regimes that continually fail to comply with the rights of their peoples to autonomy or autonomous processes of independence," said the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry.

Nicaragua challenged Spain "to allow free participation in voting and elections, without threats, intimidation, or imprisonment of pro-independence leaders" -- a reference to the Catalonian independence movement.   And the statement said that Nicaragua ceased to be a colony of Spain centuries ago and that the Central American nation has the right to self-determination and freedom from any imperial power.
