CELAC Summit concludes with the approval of all proposed documents

Mexico City, September 18 (RHC)-- The 6th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) ended today in Mexico City with the approval of six documents submitted for consideration by the leaders of the 31 countries represented.

After the inauguration of the meeting by Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador at 08:00 local time, all those present spoke in strict alphabetical and hierarchical order, with the presidents and prime ministers appearing first, followed by the representatives of the dignitaries who did not attend.

In his final report, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, who led the meeting, said that it was not necessary to read the approved declarations, but detailed that the main one, known as the Declaration of Mexico and in the hands of the dignitaries, consists of 44 numerals, each one referring to an important topic.

He explained that the document will be made public in due time, but that its preparation and approval was the result of months of joint work and synthesizes the united voice of the countries.

He announced that there are special declarations such as the one referring to the need to put an end to the economic bloc against Cuba, the one in favor of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas, and others, apart from those known about the disaster relief fund, which raised 15 million dollars on the same day of the Summit.

He specified that the text also includes everything related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the distribution of vaccines and the need to deliver them to many countries in the region that have not received them or lack the resources to access them.

Another aspect is the office for space, so that the region is represented in the global advancement of a sector that will mark the future of humanity.

Host President López Obrador officially closed the Summit with a few brief words, in which he
mentioned that the beautiful and beloved Mexico welcomed them as everyone's home and is willing to do so again.

Ebrard and ECLAC Secretary, Alicia Bárcenas, held a meeting with journalists covering the event at the National Palace and made a summary of the declarations and the integral economic development plan promoted by this United Nations agency.

The event began yesterday with the reception of the participants at the National Palace and individual interviews with the host President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to later begin their work in plenary session this Saturday.

Previously, the foreign ministers prepared the documentation and the agenda, which never included the topic of the Organization of American States, although there were expectations about it.
