La Paz, October 5 (RHC)-- The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Bolivia, Major General Augusto García Lara, pledged to defend the country's democracy and stability, as well as to collaborate with the country's courts in the clarification of the violent events that occurred after the 2019 coup d'état.

"The Armed Forces will collaborate with the justice system according to our laws and regulations and norms, since these actions broke the Political Constitution of the State, and the Organic Law of the Armed Forces by assuming actions of Intuitu Personæ character (in function of the person)," stated García Lara.

The new commander of the Armed Forces alluded to the final report of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) on the investigation associated with acts of violence and human rights violations that occurred in Bolivia such as the massacres of Sakaba and Senkata, detailing the full identification of military "who participated in events that mourned Bolivian families."

García Lara emphasized that from now on institutional discipline will be strengthened, which historically "characterized all members of the Armed Forces, built on pillars of love for the homeland and respect for our patriotic symbols.   "We will follow in a responsible and disciplined manner what the Constitution establishes in order to preserve the unity of Bolivia, the integrity of the homeland and ensure the stability of its legally constituted government."
