Bogota, October 14 (RHC)-- The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) of Colombia denounced Thursday the murder of another former combatant of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army (FARC-EP) in the municipality of Buenos Aires, department of Cauca.

Identified as María Steffania Muñoz Villa, she became the 289th signatory to be killed in Colombia after the signing of the Peace Accords in Havana, Cuba, in September 2016.  Likewise, the institution specified that Muñoz is the 40th former FARC-EP combatant to be the victim of homicide so far in 2021.

"Armed men intercepted her and shot her and her niece, who was a minor," Indepaz reported on its Twitter account.

Muñoz was carrying out her reincorporation process and worked in the Territorial Training and Reincorporation Center (ETCR) La Elvira located in the municipality of Buenos Aires, Cauca.

Indepaz recalled that the victim was the wife of the also murdered Yorbis Valencia Carabalí, another demobilized ex-combatant of the FARC-EP.  The Ombudsman's Office had issued an early warning about the presence of residual armed groups fighting for control of the territory, including the Gaitanista Self-Defense of Colombia (AGC), among others.
