La Paz, November 18 (RHC)-- The Federation of Neighborhood Councils El Alto (Fejuve) and the Bolivian Workers Council (COB) have announced an alliance to defend the Government presided by Luis Arce and declared a state of emergency in the face of destabilizing actions of extremist groups.

"We are united because it is necessary.  Those on the extreme right, the people who participated in the coup d'état, are trying to unite.  We know, we have information, that they were bringing foreign people, hired assassins, so that there would be more deaths," said the president of the Fejuve, Nicasio Ríos, while showing his support to the process led by President Arce.

"That unity is with a single objective which is to be able to defend our democracy, our process, to be able to defend our democratically elected government" said for his part, the Executive Secretary of the COB, Juan Carlos Huarachi.

Referring to the civic committees and the self-styled Committee for the Defense of Democracy (Conade), Huarachi pointed out that their main purpose is to overthrow the Government of Luis Arce and they hide behind the abrogation of laws and other actions.

"We regret the attitude of these institutions that give themselves the task of misinforming, of misrepresenting the information of norms, laws and others.  Of course, and the Bolivian people know it.  It is not the laws, it is not Law 218, it is not Law 1386.  The objective is to destabilize the Government, to wear down our Government," stressed the union leader.

Law 1386 of the National Strategy to Combat the Legitimization of Illicit Gains and Financing of Terrorism, was repealed last November 13 by the decision of President Arce, who stated that he was listening to the people and their concerns regarding this legislation.

Despite calls for unity and peace by organizations and the Government, factions of the ultra-right continue to seek excuses and ways to destabilize, call for violence and hinder attempts of changes proposed by the executive.
