Mexican security forces and Federal Police on Wednesday rescued a total of 33 Central American migrants who were traveling crammed in the back of a tracter-trailer in the northeastern State of Mexico.

Mexico City, June 2 (RHC)-- Mexican security forces on Wednesday rescued a total of 33 Central American migrants who were traveling crammed in the back of a tractor-trailer in the northeastern State of Mexico.

During a security operation, personnel from the National Guard and the Security Secretariat of the State of Mexico rescued the migrants when they searched a truck that was stopped on the highway that connects the towns of Santiago Tepetitlán and Belén.

According to police sources, upon approaching the truck they heard some noises, so they proceeded to search the vehicle.   "At the site they detected noises and voices coming from inside the container, so according to the protocol, they intervened immediately," said the Ministry of Security.

The troops rescued 25 men, five women and three minors from Guatemala and Honduras from the trailer of the truck.  After receiving attention from the Red Cross, the group of migrants were transferred to the facilities of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), where they remained in the custody of the relevant authority, while the driver of the vehicle was detained and referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
