Bolivia has reported finding 40,000 rounds of ammunition, out of a total of 70 thousand, sent to that country during the Argentinean administration of Mauricio Macri, in the days when the coup d'état against the former Bolivian President Evo Morales took place.

La Paz, June 9 (RHC)-- The Government of Bolivia has reported finding 40,000 rounds of ammunition, out of a total of 70 thousand, sent to that country during the Argentinean administration of Mauricio Macri, in the days when the coup d'état against the former Bolivian President Evo Morales took place.  The smuggling of weapons and ammunition used to repress peaceful popular protests is being investigated by the Argentinean justice system.

The finding was confirmed by the Argentinean ambassador in Bolivia, Ariel Basteiro, who explained that the ammunition is in the possession of the Bolivian Air Force.  More than 26,900 rounds of ammunition were found last year -- out of a total of 70 thousand sent by the right-wing government of Macri to Bolivia in November 2019.

In statements to the Télam news agency, the ambassador considered that the discovery of more ammunition only "reinforces the smuggling complaint" and add to "other elements that continue to reconfirm" the commission of that crime.

For example, he noted that meetings were held at the Argentinean Embassy in Evo Morales.

In Argentina, Judge Alejandro Catania seeks to reconstruct the destination of the ammunition that left Argentina with the alleged purpose of being used in the defense of the Argentinean embassy in La Paz and the ambassador's residence, but that could have been diverted to other hands.

In Bolivia, it is also being investigated whether the ammunition sent by the government of Mauricio Macri was used in the repression of the popular demonstrations against the coup that took place in the streets of that country.
