Bogota, July 15 (RHC)-- The National Union of Employees of the National Tax and Customs Directorate (Sinedian) reported that on Thursday it will hold a general strike in view of the failure to comply with the promises made by the Colombian Government regarding the incorporation of new workers in the entity.

The planned activities will take place in 17 cities where the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) operates, including Bogota, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Cucuta, Girardot, Ibague, Medellin, Monteria, Pereira, Sogamoso and Villavicencio.

Likewise, the union has warned about the 1,200 highly skilled workers who have been removed from their jobs, among them some 300 dismissed; and of the insufficient capacity to fill all the necessary vacancies, which, according to the union, would amount to 17,000 workers.

The union claims that the Government of outgoing President Iván Duque had committed, in the union tables of 2018, to expand the staff of the entity.

In the communiqué issued by the collective, last June 30, 2022, it explained that "to meet the collection goals the National Government committed to issue a decree and create a thousand vacancies for the purpose of achieving more than 200 billion pesos of revenue this year. The first promise was to issue it before the law of guarantees, but it was not possible and it was committed to do it once the presidential elections took place."

"DIAN workers can no longer put up with the work overload, the crisis of results and the institutional rupture caused by the crisis derived from not complying with the word pledged by the general director, the Minister of Finance, the director of the Civil Service and the President of the Republic", he stressed.

For its part, the National Union of Cardboard Workers of Colombia (Sintracarcol) urged that a solution be sought for the working class of the DIAN, affiliated to Sinedian, who collect taxes in the country.

Likewise, Sintracarcol demands labor stability for the people who for years have rendered their services to the country.  "Unionism is peace, is democracy, is social justice," indicated the organization.
