Caracas, October 17 (RHC)-- Venezuela's Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, headed this Sunday a meeting with representatives of the Portuguese community and the diplomatic corps in the locality of Las Tejerías, Aragua state (center-north), in which strategies for its socioeconomic recovery after the floods and the large-scale landslide that occurred there last October 8 were evaluated.
Rodriguez conducted the meeting from the presidential command installed in Las Tejerías, where as a result of the tragedy so far 50 people are reported dead and 56 are missing. Between 200 and 300 Portuguese people live in the area of Las Tejerías, and four of them perished as a result of the floods and the landslide.
Delcy Rodriguez toured the area in the company of the Ambassador-designate of the European nation in Venezuela, João Pedro de Vasconcelos Fins do Lago, to whom she explained the scope of the works to clean up and beautify the community, attend to the needs of its population and relocate the affected families in areas free of risk.
Among them, she referred to the work to refurbish the schools and allow the children and teachers to return to classes. The Portuguese diplomat was impressed by the efforts of the Bolivarian Government to rebuild the area after the severe damages it suffered. He stressed that the authorities of his country feel the tragedy as their own.
After recognizing the magnitude of the works and their progress, which he described as remarkable, he said that the Government of Portugal will support this effort through credits to rebuild businesses and homes.
Over the weekend, the sectorial vice-president for the Economic Area, Tareck El Aissami, toured Las Tejerías and inspected the revitalization of the area, after which he announced that the Venezuelan Executive will initiate a recovery plan for the industrial zones and the 23 productive companies that were affected.
It was also announced that, as part of the attention to the needs of Las Tejerías, the Ministry of People's Power for Water Services (MinAguas) and Hidrológica del Centro (Hidrocentro) have supplied more than 1,900,000 liters of drinking water to its inhabitants.
According to local media, 5,400 liters of bottled drinking water have been delivered from the Water Operational Command, in addition to 10,200 liters delivered to the Collection Center created in the Mayor's Office of the municipality Santos Michelena and another 19,710 liters were distributed in shelters where affected people are being attended.
On the other hand, about 1,870,000 liters of water have been delivered by tanker trucks to 23 communities of Las Tejerías and the supply work continues on a daily basis.
