Bogotá, August 12 (Xinhua-RHC) -- The leader of Colombia's largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), on Monday dismissed claims that a peace agreement with the Colombian government would be signed this year.

The FARC leader, Rodrigo Londono (aka 'Timoshenko'), said the work the Historical Commission has to carry out based on the conflict reconstruction, which will start on August 21st, will take four months, making the peace agreement impossible before the end of this year.

"The Historical Commission will produce input points about victims for further discussion at the negotiating table. So if we only consider this deadline, it is easy to conclude that it will not be possible for this year," Timoshenko said.

The FARC, founded in the 1960s, is the largest insurgency group in Colombia. The government of Colombia resumed peace talks with the FARC rebels in July, seeking to end a 50-year-long civil conflict.
