Civilians kidnapped by armed gangs in Mexico are rescued

Havana, April 7 (RHC) The governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, declared that after a police operation, about 35 people kidnapped by armed groups in the state of San Luis Potosí were located and rescued.

The detained civilians, including tourists from Guanajuato who were traveling to the city of Saltillo, Coahuila state, and migrants, "are in good health and are being provided with all the necessary assistance", said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of San Luis Potosí, Miguel Gallegos.

In an interview offered to the press, the SSP official highlighted that two groups of people were rescued, including possibly the tourists who had disappeared since last April 4 when they were traveling in two rented vans from the municipality of San Felipe Torres Mochas, Guanajuato.

According to the authorities, the location of the victims was possible thanks to the deployment of helicopters equipped with high-tech search with infrared vision, which made it possible to obtain information on their whereabouts from the first indications of their location.

This discovery was made after the disappearance of a group of tourists from Guanajuato leaving San Felipe for Saltillo was reported. However, the security forces have not offered details of whether they are the same people who have been searched since last Tuesday.

It was also declared that after the operation carried out in a place near the city of Matehuala, in San Luis Potosí, five trucks were found with armed people, who managed to flee in other vehicles. Near this place, a building was found with the 35 victims inside. (Source: Telesur)
