The president of Fundación Aldea, Geraldine Guerra, criticized the apathy of the State and authorites concerning the high percentage of femicides in Ecuador

Havana, April 11 (RHC) - The president of Fundación Aldea, Geraldine Guerra, denounced today that more than 70 femicides were registered in Ecuador in the first months of 2023.

The most recent - she explained - are those of Nayeli Tapia, Denisse Reyna and Yuliana Macías, whose bodies were found with signs of torture in a pit, near the bank of a river in the town of Quinindé, in the province of Esmeraldas.

The representative of that organization that seeks equal opportunities for men and women in Ecuador, criticized the apathy of the State and of the competent authorities, which - she specified - have not promoted a plan guaranteeing the non-repetition of crimes and not revictimization.

Geraldine Guerra reproached that in this context the Government of Guillermo Lasso handed over the responsibility of caring to the population, with the decree to make the carrying of arms more flexible, without taking into account the statistics.

According to the president of the foundation, for two years femicides in the South American nation have been recorded in a context of organized crime and criminal economies. The bodies of women are taken as spoils of war, to mark territories or send messages. (Source: Prensa Latina)
