United Nations, May 3 (RHC)-- Venezuela denounced on Tuesday the sanctions imposed by the United States government before the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN), particularly the seizure of Citgo, the subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (Pdvsa) located in U.S. territory.

During a Council meeting on UN Goal 16, which seeks to promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies, Venezuela's alternate permanent representative to the UN, Joaquín Pérez Ayestarán, highlighted his country's firm commitment to transparency.

Furthermore, through the official Twitter account of Venezuela's permanent mission to the UN, Pérez Ayestarán pointed out that "unilateral coercive measures and the pretension to confiscate national assets, such as the company Citgo, constitute the maximum expression of corruption, and represent criminal actions and double standards in the fight against this scourge".

During the celebration of May Day, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, showed his indignation for what he considers a robbery by the US government and the opposition United Platform of Venezuela.

President Maduro detailed that Citgo generates annual profits of more than 1 billion dollars and has more than 10,000 gasoline pumps in the U.S. "We are going to defeat this conspiracy, we are going to defeat this plot, we are going to triumph again", he declared before a crowd.
