Addis Ababa, Jun 27 (RHC) Talking about education leads us to talk about the future and the Educational Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an international institution for development through education, said Tuesday its secretary general, Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam.

Speaking at the first extraordinary session of the General Assembly held in Ethiopia, the official stressed the need for an education that recognizes our cultures, roots, needs, and humanity in the face of new challenges.

Mussallam pointed out that the educational process cannot be merely an exchange of information, but one adapted to the demands of the planet, and the interests of each individual, balanced and more supportive.

"For us, it is not a common agenda, it is a common destiny", referring to the multilateralism promoted by the organization among its member states and associate members.

He revealed that, as an organization, they have many dreams and that they will work to make them come true despite the obstacles along the way because they need an education more similar to today's society.

The extraordinary session was also chaired by Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and chairman of the assembly, Demeke Mekonnen, with representatives from Togo, Mozambique, Comoros, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Nicaragua, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Similarly, Yemen, Botswana, Cambodia, Burundi, and Tunisia attended the meeting held at the Skylight Hotel in the capital under the theme "Building a revitalized multilateral system based on equality, equity and solidarity".

This extraordinary session will take place until tomorrow and is expected to discuss institutional and administrative decisions, as well as the adequacy of the organization's name before the high-level summit scheduled for June 29-30. (Source: PL)
