Tense climate in El Salvador's political scenario

San Salvador, August 10 (RHC) The arrest of the national security advisor, Alejandro Muyshondt, and the announcement of a pretrial against the New Ideas party deputy, Erick García, are causing tension in El Salvador today.

García was expelled from the party and will face the proceedings that the Legislative Assembly will follow, something unprecedented in recent times and which some analysts believe is a sign of the cracks within the ruling party that could affect President Nayib Bukele's image.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Rodolfo Delgado, presented the request for pretrial and removal of immunity before the Parliament, which will judge the accused.

The president of the legislative body, Ernesto Castro, a deputy of New Ideas (NI), stated that they will not tolerate actions contrary to the principles of justice and the law in El Salvador.

After the request for pretrial and removal of immunity became known, the party expelled García from its ranks and canceled his candidacy for the 2024 elections.

At the beginning of the month, Bukele tried to address the internal "wave" and did not rule out an investigation "for drug trafficking" against the ruling party deputy García, as well as against his security advisor Alejandro Muyshondt, who made revelations in this regard.

Yesterday, the president addressed the situation in an extensive message on his social media, informing his fellow countrymen about the case of the parliamentarian García.

On the other hand, the newspaper El Faro did not deny the accusations that the security advisor leaked classified information to one of its journalists.

Muyshondt is being charged with the crimes of disclosure of secret facts, actions or documents by a public employee, and aiding evasion.

Bukele stated that the advisor sent those texts, in several cases modified, to journalists, "as well as to a foreign government and several citizens from other countries (the latter as a 'safe box' in case of being discovered)."

El Faro stated that it cannot deny that the official was a source for one of its journalists. (Source: PL)
