Head of State of Colombia discusses security issue with Attorney General
Havana, August 12 (RHC) Colombian President Gustavo Petro met with the Attorney General of the nation, Francisco Barbosa, in Bogota on Friday to discuss his security situation.
The meeting was requested by the President, and at the end of the meeting, Petro expressed that the national government will provide him with all the necessary protection. He also requested that competent authorities conduct a swift and thorough investigation to determine the seriousness of the situation.
Earlier this week, the Prosecutor's Office issued a statement in which it reported that "three sources" indicated that "a terrorist attack will be carried out against the Attorney General of the nation, Francisco Barbosa Delgado."
The Office of the High Commissioner for Peace reiterated its rejection of any assassination plot against the life of the Attorney General and noted that the response from the National Liberation Army (ELN), which denies responsibility for this plan, leads to considering other hypotheses, including sabotage to the peace process with this guerrilla organization.
