United Nations, Sept 1 (RHC) The upcoming G-77 and China Summit, to be held in Havana, will be of vital importance to put the Sustainable Development Goals back on track, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said Thursday.

In statements to the press from the organization's headquarters, the high representative said that his message at the meeting will call for the use of science and technology for good and to ensure that multilateralism benefits all countries.

Unless we act now, the Sustainable Development Goals could become an epitaph of a world that could have been, a vitally important issue for the bloc that brings together the global voice of the South, he stressed.

Guterres confirmed his participation this month in the African Climate Summit in Kenya; the ASEAN-UN Summit in Indonesia; the G20 Summit in India; and the G-77 and China Summit in Cuba.

This multiplicity of meetings reflects the growing multipolarity of our world, stressed the UN official.

However, multipolarity in itself does not guarantee peace and stability, the diplomat warned, recalling his call to strengthen institutions.

"Without strong multilateral institutions, multipolarity could be a factor in escalating geostrategic tensions, with tragic consequences," he insisted.

The four high-level events will take place ahead of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, scheduled for the third week of September and considered a decisive step in the consolidation of the 2030 Agenda.Diplomacy is more important than ever to navigate the tensions of our emerging multipolar world and dialogue remains the only way to find joint approaches and common solutions to the global threats and challenges we face, Guterres emphasized.
