Demand for justice one year after the assassination attempt on Argentina's vice president

Buenos Aires, Sep 1 (RHC) Members of social, trade union and political organizations in Argentina will demand this Friday the progress of investigations and the punishment of the perpetrators of the assassination attempt on Vice President Cristina Fernandez, perpetrated a year ago.

Deputies, retirees, the Feminist Assembly of the City of Buenos Aires, the Federal Workers' Current and other groups that are part of the alliance Union for the Homeland will participate in demonstrations, acts and masses in this capital and several provinces to demand justice and defend peace and democracy.

In addition, they will demand an end to violence, impunity and irregularities in the process of the attack.

One of the demonstrations will take place in the vicinity of the National Congress, while another will take place in front of the Courthouse.

On September 1, 2022, Fernando Sabag, 35 years old, pointed a gun at the head of the also head of the Senate when she was greeting people gathered outside her home in the Recoleta neighborhood of the capital.

Although he pulled the trigger, the gun - which had five bullets - did not go off and the individual was arrested by citizens who handed him over to the Federal Police (PFA).

During searches at his home in the San Martin area, the PFA found 100 bullets and a laptop, which was analyzed together with his cell phone, whose information was erased in the hands of the experts for an unknown reason.

Official reports indicate that the pistol was fit to fire and was used shortly before the attack, but misuse by the assailant prevented the projectile from entering the chamber and exiting. Shortly thereafter, the officers arrested his girlfriend, Brenda Uliarte, and both were considered by Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti as criminally responsible co-perpetrators of the crime of aggravated homicide, aggravated by the use of firearms, premeditated assault and premeditated competition of two or more persons, in the degree of attempt.

They also face charges of carrying a firearm without due legal authorization, ammunition stockpiling, possession of another person's national identity document and forgery.A man named Gabriel Carrizo was also arrested for his role in the organization and execution of the acts.

On several occasions, the former head of state denounced the participation of extremist and political groups in the organization and financing of the attack and accused Capuchetti of hindering and delaying the investigations when evidence was found that pointed to members of Revolución Federal and the Propuesta Republicana party.
