Managua, September 13 (RHC)-- Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega responded on Tuesday to statements made by the presidents of Colombia and Chile against his government and added that his people are victims of a campaign of slander and insults.

In the middle of the celebrations for the 44th anniversary of the constitution of the Nicaraguan Police, Daniel Ortega affirmed that the current situation in the region tests the revolutionary quality of the current rulers.  Ortega also labeled as cowards those who bow to the designs of the U.S. government, in this context the Nicaraguan leader called the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro a traitor for leading a country that is at the service of U.S. forces.

President Ortega urged his Colombian counterpart to show that he has dignity and expel and close the U.S. bases in the South American country.

Regarding Chile, the Nicaraguan president affirmed that under the presidency of Gabriel Boric that country is still chained to the laws of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship.

Ortega affirmed that his Chilean counterpart has failed to keep his word to punish those responsible for the repression that in the second government of Sebastián Piñera suffered thousands of young people during the social outburst of 2019.
