Washington, October 17 (RHC)-- After sending aircraft carriers to the eastern Mediterranean and only a few hours before Joe Biden's arrival in Israel, the United States has mobilized 2,000 troops on Tuesday off the coast of its ally.
The soldiers would be ready for the deployment, which for some analysts would be a very dangerous step that, if carried out, would extend the flames of the smoldering powder keg in the Middle East region.
According to initial reports, the Pentagon military was ordered to be prepared to deploy "in non-combat roles" in Israel or Gaza, but mostly in a what they call "a deterrent role."
However, beyond this decision, it appears that the United States is creating conditions for the possibility of opening other war fronts beyond the one declared by Israel against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
For the moment, the White House avoids giving too many explanations. Local media reported the day before that Biden met with his National Security team and also reported that the president warned that a ground offensive in the Strip would be a mistake on Israel's part.
Sabrina Singh, deputy Pentagon spokeswoman, said that the Defense Department's disposition with the aforementioned forces is based only on providing intelligence and advice to the Israeli Army. But, she acknowledged, the troops are armed and carry military equipment that can be used.
However, the presence of Pentagon soldiers in the volatile region increases rather than deters tensions.
Biden, who has spoken several times with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since war broke out between Israel and Hamas following the Islamist group's surprise attack on Oct. 7, made clear the steadfast and unwavering support for his loyal ally.
"We stand with Israel" was the phrase with which the Democratic president defined his administration's position in a speech from the White House.
For some analysts, the United States is becoming more and more militarily involved in the war between the Zionist regime and Hamas.
Already in the waters of the eastern Mediterranean is the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford (CVN-78) and its escort group composed of a cruiser and four destroyers, while other groups will arrive in the coming days.
In addition, the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69) aircraft carrier strike group departed on October 14 for the zone of belligerence with the aim, according to the White House, of "preventing any Iranian intervention in the conflict".
The U.S. military command also dispatched squadrons of U.S. Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16 and A-10 fighter jets to the area and provided additional equipment and resources, including ammunition.
More than a thousand Palestinian children died as a consequence of Israel's incessant bombardment of the blockaded Gaza in the last few days, according to statistics from humanitarian organizations. (Source:PL)
