Washington, October 7 (RHC)-- U.S. military officials announced that Arab and other allied nations have conducted about 10 percent of nearly 2,000 airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since August, dropping nearly 1,000 bombs.

The U.S. military's warplanes conducted 1,768 raids and other countries about 195 attacks since August 8, the unnamed officials told AFP on Monday. The fighter jets have dropped about 1,000 bombs in less than two months.

The bombing campaign began on August 8th in Iraq and was extended into Syria on September 23rd. Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have so far participated in the campaign against the ISIL terrorist group. Other countries included France, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands and Australia.

According to the officials, U.S.-led coalition warplanes have flown more than 4,800 sorties in the air war, including more than 1,600 refueling runs by tankers, 700 surveillance flights as well as bombing missions.

U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said that international troops would be deployed in Iraq to fight against ISIL if necessary. The general told reporters he may eventually recommend boots on the ground and those forces would not necessarily be U.S. military forces. Obama has repeatedly ruled out using U.S. troops on the ground in a combat role.
