New York, August 13 (RHC)-- In what many observers are saying is nothing less than a page from the comics section of the newspaper, The New York Times is reporting that the White House has offered Nicolas Maduro to voluntarily resign from the post of president of Venezuela in exchange for a pardon.

Anonymous sources say, according to The Wall Street Journal, Maduro associates are being accused of participating in drug trafficking and, in particular, of importing cocaine into the United States.  The newspaper says that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration has also promised to provide Maduro with guarantees against "extradition prosecutions."

One source to The Wall Street Journal said that the Biden administration has put “everything on the table” to convince Maduro to cede power before January, one source said.

The U.S. offers "could fall flat if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in November," The Journal reported, "given his previous hardline approach to Venezuela." 

According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. authorities claim -- without providing any proof whatsoever == that "Edmundo González won last month’s election [in Venezuela]" and implies that Nicolas Maduro should accept a deal to leave the country and hand over the reins of power to the right-wing leader.
