Venezuela celebrates Josep Borrell’s departure from the EU: A statement from Foreign Minister Yvan Gil

Caracas, November 19 (RHC)-- Vemezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has issued a strong statement following the departure of Josep Borrell from his position as High Representative of the European Union.  Gil harshly criticized Borrell’s work during his tenure, asserting that it was marked by attempts to “lie and harm Venezuela,” as well as being “inspired by his old colonialist thinking.”

In his statement, the foreign minister emphasized that Borrell ended his term “once again threatening the Venezuelan people with the imposition of sanctions and disregarding our democracy,” which, according to Gil, highlights the lessons that Venezuela has imparted to an “aged Europe.”

The official pointed out that Borrell’s period was characterized by “failure after failure,” and concluded with more “lies about our country,” showcasing what he considers an inferiority complex stemming from defeats against both the “European empire” and the victories of the “Bolivarian Revolution.”

Gil stressed that Venezuela’s history is deeply rooted in the struggle for independence, reminding that “we are children of Bolívar, and the victory for our independence has belonged to us for over 200 years.” He emphasized that European powers have not been able to subdue the Latin American country, asserting with determination: “They could not and they will not!”

This statement adds to a series of reactions in the Latin American political arena, where several leaders have expressed their support for Venezuelan sovereignty and criticized the interventionist policies of foreign powers. The Venezuelan government continues to defend its autonomy and seeks to strengthen its ties with strategic allies in the region and beyond.
