Damascus, December 8 (RHC)-- A situation of total siege shakes the Syrian capital after the advance of terrorist groups that managed to penetrate the cities of Madaya, Zabadani and Buqin, located in the rural area of southern Damascus, after heavy clashes with the Syrian army.

According to information from the Reuters agency, President Bashar al Assad left the capital on Sunday, according to the version of two senior military commanders consulted by the agency.  Syrian terrorist groups confirmed their entry into Damascus, after overcoming the security cordon established by the authorities.

The last points of Syrian military resistance were evacuated, allowing armed groups to take control of these areas strategically and without prolonged clashes.  While Syrian authorities and the Ministry of Defense have not issued any official information for the moment.

Earlier, amid speculation about a possible change of power in Syria, the Syrian government denied rumors about the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad. This development came amid intense regional diplomatic activity, where representatives of important Middle Eastern countries and Russia met to address the complex Syrian situation.

During a ministerial meeting held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, the foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and Russia discussed in depth the humanitarian crisis in Syria. The diplomats agreed on the urgency of intensifying international efforts to increase humanitarian aid and ensure unrestricted access to all regions of the country.

The meeting also underlined shared concern about the risks that the situation in Syria poses to national, regional and international security, stressing the need for a concrete diplomatic and humanitarian solution.
