Havana, Dec 25 (RHC) The Danish government has announced today an increase in funding for the defense of Greenland, following the announcement by President-elect Donald Trump that the United States needs to take control of the territory.

According to the Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, the amount of funding for defense will be in the tens of billions of kroner.

However, the head of the Danish military portfolio did not disclose the exact amount, but local media estimates suggest it will be between 12 and 15 billion kroner (approximately $1.7 billion to $2 billion).

With this funding, Denmark will be able to purchase two new ships and the same number of long-range drones, Poulsen added, as reported by the Ekstrabladet newspaper.

In addition, he plans to increase the number of personnel stationed at the Arctic Command in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk.

The kingdom will also upgrade one of Greenland's three main civilian airports to accommodate supersonic F-35 fighter jets.
