Peshawar, December 18 (RHC)-- Thousands of mourners have attended the funeral of the victims of a terrorist attack on an army-run school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar. On Tuesday, people in the northwestern city of Peshawar began burying the corpses of 132 students and nine staff of the army-run school who lost their lives following the deadly terrorist attack earlier in the day.

The group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out in retaliation for a major military offensive in Pakistan's tribal belt. A group of gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniforms stormed the school, walking from classroom to classroom and shooting at students. The attack claimed the lives of over 140 people and injured scores of others.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to push ahead with military operations against Taliban militants despite the increasing threats of the terrorist group. Back in June, the Pakistani army launched a major offensive against militant hideouts in North Waziristan after a deadly militant raid on Karachi Airport ended the government's faltering peace talks with Taliban militants.

Pakistan's army claims it has killed over 1,600 militants so far, while losing more than 120 of its own soldiers.
