Caracas, December 24 (RHC-PL) -– Venezuelan media have published a statement by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which rejects U.S. sanctions against officials of the South American country.
The digital version of the daily Correo del Orinoco and Ultimas Noticias published the full text, saying that a law approved in the U.S. Congress recently signed by President Barack Obama had as a objective to destabilize Venezuela.
According to the message of the NAM, which pro tempore presidency will be taken by Venezuela in 2015, the interventionist and unilateral sanctions aim to undermine the sovereignty, political independence and right to self-determination of Venezuela, in clear violation of international law.
In addition, the NAM expressed its solidarity with the people and government of Nicolas Maduro to reject those deemed illegal initiatives.
The U.S. government sanctions against Venezuela are attributed to government officials alleged to have been linked to acts of violation of human rights in violent demonstrations (guarimbas) in early 2014. The sanctions include restrictions on the transfer of goods or technology to Venezuela with the pretext that they can be used to abuse human rights.
The action illustrates the White House interference in the internal affairs of the South American country and its alliance with sectors of the right wing groups involved in the death of 43 people during the protests, according to local authorities.
