Ankara, July 29 (RHC)-- In Turkey, the military has carried out its heaviest assault on Kurdish militants in northern Iraq since airstrikes began last week, effectively ending a two-year truce.
Turkey has launched combat operations on two fronts: one against the self-proclaimed Islamic State in Syria and another against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, inside Turkey and in northern Iraq, where the PKK has been fighting against ISIL for the past year.
During an emergency session in Brussels Tuesday, NATO offered support for Turkey’s military campaigns, although some member states expressed unease over the crackdown against the Kurds.
