London, August 24 (RHC)-- Police in the UK say the death toll from a recent air show crash in the country may continue to climb. As many as 20 people may have died in the Shoreham air crash on Saturday, police say.

Police said on Sunday that 11 people may have died, when a Hawker Hunter jet failed to pull out of a loop maneuver, which prompted calls for a review of rules surrounding aerial displays. Saturday's crash prompted questions over whether the aerobatic display should have taken place next to a busy road.

As emergency services get set to recover the wreckage, police fear more bodies could be discovered. Reports now say the organizers of Shoreham Airshow have defended the event's safety record.

A crane is expected to lift the wreckage of the aircraft later on Monday. The site of the crash stretches for more than 360 meters, and has been described as hazardous because of the amount of fuel still on the plane.
