Tokyo, September 18 (RHC)-- In Japan, lawmakers have taken a step toward enacting legislation that would allow Japanese troops to fight abroad for the first time since World War II.

The bill was approved by an upper house panel after opposition lawmakers tried to physically block the vote. This comes after thousands of people protested outside the Japanese Parliament, calling for the legislation to be scrapped and for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to resign.
