Mexico City, October 12 (teleSUR-RHC)-- An intense shootout erupted in broad daylight in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, between Mexican army soldiers and alleged kidnappers with a death toll of six, including five of the suspects and one military staff member, La Jornada reported on Sunday.

The military forces rescued a woman who had apparently been kidnapped by the deceased gunmen. She was tied up in the back of the group's vehicle. The state of Tamaulipas Coordination Group (GCT) released a statement saying the woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition. Authorities did not give detailed information whether she was injured in the shootout.

The statement added the armed forces troops were in persecution of criminals when they finally cut them off at the corner of 5 de Febrero and Tamaulipas, causing the alleged kidnappers to crash.

The gunmen opened fire from inside their vehicle against the soldiers, killing one of them. The military forces fired back killing the five suspects, who are said to be between 20 and 30 years of age.

The woman told soldiers she had been kidnapped October 7th, and she did not know where her kidnappers were taking her.
