Caracas, October 16 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE) met with candidates on Thursday, who committed to respecting the results of parliamentary elections on December 6th.

"Our priority is to guarantee peace and tranquility of the Venezuelans," said Electoral Council President Tibisay Lucena. She added the participation of all political parties throughout the country is necessary to ensure elections are held in "healthy peace."

The electoral body approved the signing of the document by those candidates who will participate in the elections and said this is one of the guarantees in this year’s electoral process through which 167 new members of the National Assembly will be elected.

"This is not something new. It represents an important policy for the country's voters,” she said. “Your presence offers your followers, and the Venezuelan people overall, a space to promote the best electoral climate possible.”

The proposal was made by President Nicolas Maduro and has been endorsed by Ernesto Samper, the Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR). Nevertheless, it has been rejected by the country's opposition.
