San Salvador, May 2 (PL/RHC) An earthquake of 5.1 degrees on the Richter scale shook today part of Salvador. The tremor was felt at 05.50am local time, with no fatal victims of property damages reported.

The Salvadorian Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources said the quake’s epicenter was located off the coast of San Vicente, south of San Salvador, and that it was 42 kilometers deep. Another tremor, this one a 4.6 magnitude, had been recorded yesterday, 100 kilometers southwest of Sonsonate, in the western part of the country.

Located on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, El Salvador is a nation marked by an intense seismic activity generated by the action of the Cocos Plate lying beneath the Caribbean Plate and a number of active geological faults, which affect both El Salvador and neighboring Guatemala and Honduras.
