Havana, November 4 (RHC)-- Different sectors of Cuban society came together for a one-day activity on Friday, November 4, at the Ignacio Agramonte Plaza at the University of Havana to observe a Continental Day for Democracy and Against Neo-liberalism.

Activities focused on defending the country's sovereignty. Organizers included several Cuban groups, which are part of the Social Movements that constitute the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).

To mark the say, protest marches against neo-liberalism took place in several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Peru, Panama, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, under the banner of "Not one step back!  The peoples' struggle continues for integration, self-determination, and sovereignty and against free trade and transnationals!"

The decision to hold the continental day of protest on November 4 was made by participants in the hemispheric conference held on the 10th anniversary of the defeat of the U.S.-proposed Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA), last year in Havana.
