Russian Institute Posthumously Grants Fidel Castro 'Man of the Year 2016' Award

Havana, December 22 (RHC)-- The Russian Biographical Institute has posthumously granted Cuban revolutionary leader, the late Fidel Castro its 'Man of the Year – 2016' Award in the nomination 'International Relations', in recognition of Fidel's brilliant contributions to world history.

Diplomatic sources said the council of experts sponsored by the Russian Biographical Institute decided to dedicate this year's award to Fidel despite his regrettable death on November 25th.

During the awards ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church, the President of the Russian Biographical Institute, Sviatoslav Rybas described Fidel's support for world progressive movements and his tireless efforts toward strengthening Russia-Cuba relations. 

Cuban Ambassador Emilio Lozada thanked the Biographical Institute on behalf of the Cuban Government and people for the award and called Fidel Castro's demise on November 25 at the age of 90 an irreparable loss for Cuba, Latin American and humanity in general.

The 'Man of the Year' award has been granted in Russia over the past 24 years, and is conferred to deserving political, cultural and scientific figures.
