Guantanamo, February 8 (RHC)-- A decrease in the level of several water reservoirs, due to the intense drought affecting the Western part of Guantánamo province, is forcing the introduction of a new strategy in water distribution to local residents in the provincial capital --Cuba´s sixth most populated city.

The drought has affected the Faustino Perez dam, which today contains less than 20 million cubic meters of water.

This means that in less than a month and a half the reservoir has lost over 15 percent of the total amount it stores.

Juan Carlos González, deputy provincial director of Hydraulic Resources, told reporters that the sharp decrease in the water level  is due to the almost null rainfall over the Guaso River area.
