Geneva, March 6 (RHC)-- Cuba is defending this Monday and Tuesday before the UN Committee on Forced Disappearances, in Geneva, its report on this abominable practice still evident in several regions of the world.

The International Convention for the protection of all people against forced disappearance became effective on 23 December 2010, and gave an important push forward to international efforts to set up a common juridical framework to face this lethal practice.

Cuba has been actively involved in the operations of this UN Committee, which monitors instances of this abominable practice throughout the world.

According to the United Nations, forced disappearances  are identified by three elements. It begins with the privation of freedom of a person without his-hers permission. The Participation in such forced disappearance of  Government agents, either directly or indirectly, and the negative to reveal the whereabouts or vital parameters of the sequestered person.

According to the United Nations, the objective of this examination is to demand truth, justice and also to pay homage to persons that have been forcibly disappeared.

The UN Committee also gives support to families of persons who try to locate their beloved members who have been sequestered and disappeared.

Cuba boasts of juridical procedures that regulate and guarantee the vital human rights of all citizens.

In fact, since its victory, in 1959, the Cuban Revolution has hoisted the banner of the strict defense of the physical and moral integrity of all citizens, including those accused of crimes. The Cuban constitutional charter establishes the protection of human dignity as an essential value.
