Havana, January 17 (RHC)--   All municipalities in Cuba are ready to proceed next Sunday with the nomination of candidates to become delegates to the Provincial Assemblies and deputies to the National Parliament, in an extraordinary session of their respective local assemblies.

In an interview with Radio Reloj, Gisela Duarte, President of the National Slate Commission confirmed the process leading to this step has been successfully accomplished.

The local slate commissions met last week to select the candidates to the higher legislative bodies and Sunday, the municipal assemblies will fulfill one of their top responsibilities: accepting or rejecting the proposal of candidates submitted to them by the municipal and provincial slate commissions.

Duarte said that once that the candidate’s proposed are approved, the biographies and pictures of the nominated candidates will be put on display in public places so that voters get acquainted with them.

Before the elections, scheduled for March 11, the proposed candidates will reach out to communities and engage in discussions at schools, work centers, and community centers.

The president of the National Slate Commission recalled that according to the Cuban electoral law, in each municipality up to 50% of candidates to delegates to the provincial assemblies and deputies to the National Assembly can be chosen among the delegates of the municipal assemblies

The slate commissions are chaired by trade union officials and made up of elected representatives of mass organizations representing workers, farmers, youth, women, and students.
