Havana, Feb 19 (RHC)-- Slovak Vice President Robert Kaliñák arrived in Havana over the weekend for an official visit, aimed at strengthening friendship and cooperation ties between the European nation and the Caribbean state.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry reported on its Twitter account that the distinguished visitor, who serves also as Slovak Minister of the Interior, was received at Havana's José Martí international airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

While in Cuba, the Slovak official will have a packed agenda that includes meetings with local authorities to discuss cooperation in areas of common interest.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the visit gives continuity to exchanges held last year between Cuban and Slovak representatives from sectors like energy, health and agriculture.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez visited Slovakia in June 2017.

Cuba has repeatedly thanked Slovakia for its constructive role in negotiations that led to the signing of the Bilateral Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba.
