Havana, March 27 (RHC-ACN)-- The Cuban Communist Party's Central Committee held a two-day plenary session this week geared at reviewing the country’s current updating of its social and economic model.

The session was chaired by the Party's First Secretary, President Raul Castro.

An article by Granma newspaper said evaluation of the policies implemented since 2011, when updating of the model began, was high on the session’s agenda.

The article said implementation during the first three years had been swift, but that it had slowed in the last two years due to the complexity of the process, and mistakes committed in its planning and control. It noted critically that economic and financial constraints had stood in the way of needed support for a group of actions that demanded investment.

The article says unification of the dual currency circulating in Cuba presently is a priority issue, as is the drawing up of a National Economic and Social Development Program up to the year 2030.

Communist Party First Secretary Raul Castro said updating the Cuban economic and social model takes hard work and noted that despite mistakes and inefficiencies as admitted by the session, the situation ahead for Cuba is more favorable than it was a few years ago.
