Dili, April 11 (RHC)-- In a ceremony held at the Dili Convention Center in Timor Leste to commemorate "World Health Day", the Minister of State and Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo, spoke on the progress made since the introduction of the "Family Health" program there in 2016, with Cuba's assistance.

He referred to the impact of the training of nearly one thousand physicians by Cuban specialists. He insisted that without the participation of those Cuba-trained doctors, it would have been impossible to launch the program.

In Timor-Leste, a Cuban Medical Brigade, made up of more than 150 aid workers, provides assistance and teaching services, while a score of young Timorese are studying medicine and other related specialties in Cuba.

The event was attended by the Cuban ambassador, Oscar Coet Blackstock, the Health Minister and other directors, Dr. Rajesh Panday from the WHO, the Coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade and Cuban specialists.
