Civil society representatives voice concern over lack of transparency at regional gathering in Peru

Lima, April 12 (RHC)-- Cuban Fermín Quiñones, coordinator of panel 15 of the ongoing Civil Society Forum, taking place in Lima, Peru, blasted the lack of organizational transparency of events, in the framework of the 8th Summit of the Americas.

The Cuban representative denounced the selection of participants in those events, arguing that organizers selected participants not amongst the official delegation that arrived from Cuba, and which includes representatives of more than 2000 NGOs and other civil society organizations on the island, but among U.S.-paid mercenaries, who arrived in Lima with a clear objective to foment conflict and generate chaos.

Cuban representatives in Lima also blasted the registration process for debates involving regional youth, saying those selected by the organizers to represent Cuba do not represent the interests of Cuban youth, nor did they participate in the national consultation conducted on March 23 with young Cuban workers and students.

They insisted that those who participated in the 5th Youth Forum of the Americas, portraying themselves as representatives of Cuban youth, are actually mercenaries at the service of foreign entities and governments, in their attempt to destabilize the island's political system and subvert Cuban youth.
