Havana, April 30 (RHC)-- Broadcasters behind the microphones of Studio 6 of Radio Havana Cuba will now have an added source of inspiration in their job of relaying to the world news of Cuba and its reality.
The studio, used by the station for its daily English-language broadcasts, has been named the Mike La Guardia Studio, after the late veteran journalist. Mike La Guardia was for years the chief English language voice of Radio Havana Cuba. He joined the station in 1966, and headed its English Language Service for 13 years.
Self-taught in the profession of journalism, Mike La Guardia became an emblematic figure in Cuba's international radio broadcasts. He interviewed figures like President Salvador Allende of Chile, Cuban National Poet Nicolás Guillén, and Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez.
Miguel Angel de La Guardia Hernandez -- Miguelito, as he was known by his peers across Cuba -- received numerous awards and decorations during his professional career. He was the recipient of the National Culture Award and of the 50th Anniversary Medal of the International Organization of Journalists, among other distinctions.
