Havana, May 5 (RHC)-- The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, will arrive in Havana on Monday to attend a high-level meeting of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

According to his agenda announced in Havana, Guterres will hold talks on Monday with the newly-elected president of the Caribbean island, Miguel Diaz-Canel and will pay tribute to Cuba's National Hero, José Martí, in Havana's Plaza de la Revolucion.

He will also tour Old Havana, declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

On Tuesday, the UN Secretary General will participate in the inauguration of the Thirty-Seventh Session of the ECLAC, a forum scheduled to run through May 11 at Havana's Convention Center.

This will be Guterres' first visit to Cuba since he took office in January 2017 to replace Ban Ki-moon.

At UN headquarters in New York, deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, told Prensa Latina that Guterres will also hold talks with leaders of several delegations attending ECLAC's session.
