Havana, May 12 (RHC)--The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) concluded its 37th ordinary session in Havana on Friday with a renewal of its commitment to serve as a relevant and effective instrument for the development of the region

The closing ceremony was headed by Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC and by Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba.

In his remarks, Malmierca said he was honored to receive, on behalf of Cuba, the Presidency pro tempore of ECLAC and assured that over the next two years Cuba will work 'with determination and responsibility'.

He also stated that, in his work, Cuba will privilege the Caribbean region, which requires special support due to its vulnerabilities.

The Minister affirmed that ECLAC 'is consolidating more and more every day, addressing the problems that our region is facing'.
