Cuba ready for referendum on new Constitution

Havana, February 6 (RHC)-- Less than three weeks until the referendum on the country's new Constitution and authorities are finalizing details in preparation for the vote.

The president of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), Alina Balseiro, recently assured that the country is ready to conduct the democratic process, which has been widely reported both in and outside the island.

According to the official, national, provincial, municipal and local commissions responsible for organizing and validating the voting process, are ready for the February 24 referendum.   On Sunday, February 17, a trial run will take place to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the vote.

In this regard, Minister of the Interior Colonel Mario Méndez urged citizens to review their information on electoral registry lists, and report any errors or discrepancies as soon as possible so that they may be rectified in a timely manner.

 

In addition to those eligible to vote on the island, thousands of Cubans on international missions abroad, including diplomats, collaborators and scholarship holders will also have the chance to cast their ballots.

 

The conditions for this process have already been created across 1,050 educational centers in some 120 countries, said Marcos Rodríguez, president of the Foreign Ministry's Special Electoral Commission.
