Havana, February 22 (RHC)-- Cuban press and Internet users blasted news linked to a non-existent fake FaceBook account of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, after a false report said that he had  called on Cuban artists to participate in the Venezuela Peace Concert, an event to promote a U.S. military intervention in the South American country.

"We are looking at another piece of fake news (…) a Facebook page supposedly belonging to Cuban President Díaz-Canel has been around for a while now.  The page and the posts that appear on it are fake,” reports Cubadebate.

Cubadebate noted: “We know what’s behind these lies” and reminded Internet users that the Cuban president does not have an oficial Facebook profile.

Juventud Rebelde also denounced attempts to disseminate fake news about Cuba, such as the Cuban president’s supposed support of the Venezuela Peace concert.
For the last 60 years, Cuba has been the victim of armed aggression, terrorism, biological warfare and an ongoing hostile media campaign, which has intensified with the arrival of new information and communications technologies.

Díaz-Canel does have an official Twitter account, which was activated on October 10 last year , and currently has 98,000 followers.
